BIG BLOCK WALLS

Big block retaining walls utilize the size and weight of the blocks themselves to reinforce the slope and the structures above the wall to provide a stable and visually appealing solution.   Some of the benefits to big block wall designs are:

• Taller walls without the need for additional reinforcement (such as geogrid)
• Quicker installation with less people needed on site.
• Block durability may be better than dry cast retaining wall block options.
• Less excavation area required to build

Big block retaining walls are a fast and often efficient solution for a project but, they are not without their drawbacks.  Before considering a Big Block wall(s) for your next project, some things to consider are:

• Heavy equipment will be needed to install the blocks
• Equipment size and materials may make accessing the project site more difficult access
• Large blocks can limit the flexibility of the design
• Big blocks are just that – big. They require a lot of materials to manufacture, and this can lead to higher material costs on the project.
